We are looking forward to working with the UWA Conservatorium of Music, the UWA Centre for Social Impact, and the WA Alliance to End Homelessness (WAAEH) in this once-in-a-lifetime community event.
In 1971 composer Gavin Bryars arranged a piece of music based on a loop of an unknown homeless man singing a brief stanza. Almost 50 years later, homelessness is still a huge issue for so many in our community. This incredibly powerful and poignant piece is being used to raise awareness about the #EndHomelessnessWA campaign
On Friday April 13, a recording of this loop playing will be pushed around Hay & Murray St malls on a trolley. Ensembles (including the Perth Guitar Quartet) will be stationed throughout the malls and will sing/play a simple 12 bar arrangement as the trolley passes. Ensembles will then move to Forrest Place and join together in a powerful finale of hundreds of performers accompanying the recording of the homeless man.
Everyone deserves a home, and together we can end homelessness in WA.
